In an age where Disney has to remake all their successful properties, is it any wonder that some companies might decide to beat them to some of them? After all, the bulk of Disney's films are based on public domain material that anyone can use. It's a simple matter of just borrowing one fairy tale, and putting in the appropriate twists to make it seem exactly like one of those remakes. No copyright infringement, no lawsuits, just a good clean adaptation that just happens to be based on something Disney already adapted, and happens to be released around the same time that Disney was making live-action reimaginings of their successful films. Nothing sketchy going on here at all.
